The second annual Metaverse Music Festival (DCLMVMF22), billed as “a four-day celebration of music, innovation, culture, and creativity,” begins today on the blockchain-based gaming platform Decentraland. The major headliners of the event are Björk and Ozzy, but there will be more than 170 other artists performing virtually across 15 stages, including Dillon Francis, Soulja Boy, Motörhead, Megadeath, Akira the Don, and many more. A virtual competition will be hosted by the reality TV program The Voice, and victors will receive NFT trophies.

The Metaverse Music Festival’s producer, Iara Dias, claims that theevent is intended to play with new possibilities that are only conceivable in the metaverse while reenacting some of the characteristics of actual music festivals. She declares, “We want the festival to enchant everyone. “We can test the limits of physics while remaining safe,”

Without giving anything away, Dias suggests that participants may have the opportunity to have a “psychedelic experience” at the event, which is most likely to involve a brief inundation of DayGlo colors and surreal images that take over the computer screen. I’m not promising it, but perhaps we will.then you can avoid the unpleasant experience altogether, or something similar.

Crypto exchange platform Kraken returns as presenting partner.

Decentraland collaborated with cryptocurrency exchange Kraken to host the Metaverse Music Festival for the second consecutive year. Decentraland also collaborated with a number of other companies, such as Limewire and Ozzy Osbourne’s music festival Ozzfest, to sponsor particular stages and provide their own branded experiences. According to Dias, her team has assisted these companies in navigating this novel environment and realizing the potential of the metaverse: She claims that sometimes “[we] are telling them what is possible and pushing the boundaries.” They are asking very humbly, but we respond by saying, “No, come on, we’ve entered the metaverse, we can do more than this.”

New opportunities for revenue and fan engagement.

Artists appearing at DCLMVMF22 will have the opportunity to sell their own NFT emotes; according to Dias, Soulja Boy and Ozzy will each be releasing one. Fingers crossed it’s a bat chewing its head off, though with COVID that might not be as cool of a look as it was in the 1970s.

Akira the Don says ‘there is no need for anyone to ever feel alone ever again’.

The first music festival Akira the Don ever visited was Redding Festival in 1995, and he recalls seeing Björk perform as the headlining act: “Little me was so desperate to see her, as soon as the gates opened, I went to the front and clung on to that barrier right at the front of the stage. And until Björk started playing, I fucking hung onto that for dear life all day and all night. People crowdsurfed into the back of my skull, I didn’t eat, or pee. I clung on to the object for dear life despite folks trying to push me aside because they wanted to be at the front.

People crowdsurfed into the back of my skull, I didn’t eat, or pee. I clung on to that item for dear fucking life despite folks trying to push me aside because they wanted to be in the front. I changed when I left that place. 27 years later, [Björk and I] are performing together on a stage in the metaverse.

According to Akira, there is a lot of room for creativity in the metaverse: “You’re constructing places, you’re creating feelings and experiences that are greater than what you get from reading a blog post or clicking a link on a music player,” he adds. And no one has to ever experience feeling alone again.
